My desire to write Ordinary Monsters came from a fascination in watching the media descend on a murder scene and place the Police under enormous pressure, often leading to the wrong man being arrested.
The pressure on the press to produce a story is, it would seem, now almost as great as the pressure on the police to find the killer, the two becoming entwined in a self-destructive tangle. I wanted to say something about this situation.

First time novelist Paul Ekert has crafted a well polished novel here. Centered around network TV journalist Jon Baptist whose career is going down hill fast, he returns to his hometown to cover a local murder and stumbles onto a way to bring his career back to life...if he can survive himself.
If you thought TV anchors were shallow, self-centered personalities, this book will confirm that for you. A fun, sometimes gruesome read that often rings true-to-life. Highly recommended.
Very well written with well-drawn characters. Never thought I'd be made to feel sorry for a murderer!
Paul Ekert is a skilled writer, and one to watch out for.
This book is a great read, well paced and the author has a great 'no holds barred' writing style and does not shy away from content which i found to be a change to some authors in this genre.
I was then surprised to hear that this was this authors first novel and all i can say is my hat is off to him and i hope he writes more in the future.

Fast paced with the story switching between the reporter's and police's search for the killer this book will keep you wanting to know what happens next.
With strong, believable characters this book has the feel of an Ian Rankin novel. A great page turner that will keep you hooked until the end.
Enjoyed this book immensely. The storyline was gripping and kept me turning the pages.
As a fan of the genre I was not disappointment with this at all.
